As a longtime yogini with 2 children, I love sharing the practice with expectant mothers. Doing yoga regularly through out your pregnancy helps to reduce excess swelling and keeps your body more comfortable during pregnancy. When you are pregnant, your body and back muscles compensate for the shift in body weight. In my pre natal classes you will work on poses that help to counter act what is happening posturally within your body. You will work on poses to help to loosen your back muscles, which helps to decrease discomfort in your back, as well as work on opening your hips, etc. You will work your pelvic floor muscles, do short meditation, with lots of breathing exercises. The class setting is in the comfort of my home, and class sizes are small. We use props (blankets, bolsters, blocks and chairs) to help you explore poses safely and comfortably. The energy I put forth in my pre natal classes is to help keep you calm and grounded, all while learning breath, meditation and stretching techniques that can be employed up to the time of birth and afterwards.
